十二生肖是植根在华夏文明沃土上的一枝奇葩,也对周边国家产生了巨大的影响,成为东方文明的一个组成部分。马在十二生肖中,位居第七位,与地支“午”相配。马能够成为十二生肖之一,在民间有许多虚构的动人传说。但事实上,自从人类告别渔猎时代,进入农耕社会,马就成了人类最先饲养的动物之一。马以它的聪明、勇敢、忠诚、耐劳的特征,成为人类的可靠朋友和得力助手,无论是在农耕、运输方面,还是在血雨腥风的战场上,马都为人类立下了汗马功劳。在今天,尽管由于科技发达,马作为人类助手的作用相对削弱,但人类祖先遗传下来的恋马情结却永远不会消失。
