Mount Corporation, of ISA Mining Australia Ltd., in conjunction with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, has patented the method of pre-sintering smelting lead sulfide concentrate or ore, known as British Patent N: 2113253A. The method is to powder ore, concentrate or slurry into lined with refractory lined furnace, furnace slag tank temperature is 1000-1250 ℃. Oxygen-rich air through the tuyere from the top down to stir the melt. Liquid combustion is also given by these tuyeres. In the first stage, the lead sulfide is oxidized and absorbed by the slag and becomes an oxide containing up to 50% of the lead. In the second stage, lump coal is added to the furnace in order to reduce the oxide to metal. The slag is either recycled or sent to zinc recovery, and the process can continue.
