凉伞公社地处湘黔边界,是海拔500公尺以上的山区。山高谷深气温低,雾多湿大日照短,适合稻瘟病的发生和流行。据贫下中农反映,达里稻瘟病为害已有60多年的历史,是个老稻瘟病区,每年都有不同程度的发生,造成一定的损失。例如,1971年全社种植双季稻1400多亩,由于稻瘟病大发生,招致严重减产,早稻200多亩失败,两季平均由产只400多斤。
