人、鬼、神、妖是电影王国的四种角色,也是构成电影宇宙的四重天地。世间的阴晴圆缺,人生的悲欢离合在这四重天地里轮番映现,人性的千姿百态、人间的万种风情在这四种角色身上交替演绎,他们共同构成了纷繁变幻的电影世界。一部《画皮》几乎把这四种角色熔于一炉,把这四重天地化为一体,带给我们一个既诡异、惊悚又恐怖、神秘的魔幻之梦。其实,妖魔鬼怪在中国的电影里已经蛰伏了80多年了。中国电影诞生之后的第一个商业化的高潮就是以光怪陆离的神怪电影引领的,武侠电影的开山之作《火烧红莲寺》(1928)就是一部神怪武侠片。“红莲寺”里的烈火不仅烧出了豪侠义士,也烧出了鬼怪神灵。从此,神怪的魔影与侠客的刀光在中国电影中就没有消失过,他们共同拉开了中国电影史上既阴森又怪异的一幕……
