There are indeed many difficulties in diagnosing patients with chronic functional abdominal pain. A group of 21 patients studied in the Gastroenterology Department of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and 15 underwent surgery including 5 laparotomy and did not include a visit of 57 specialists.
