断山墩遗址位于镇江市东郊丹徒丁岗乡.1957年尹焕章、张正祥两位先生在宁镇山脉考古普查中发现,遗址总面积2万余平方米,保存良好.1981年9月至11月由南京博物院、南京大学、厦门大学三单位合作对该遗址进行了第一次正式发掘.共开5×5米探方32个,实际发掘750平方米.文化层堆积丰富,厚达2.5至4.5米,多层次叠压,发现居住址和墓葬等遗迹多处
