According to Turbomachinery International’s January-February 1993 report, it has been found that wet air gas turbine (HAT) cycling is a highly efficient and cost-effective method of producing electricity compared to combined-cycle. Wet air engines with intercooled, reheat-powered cycles are improvements and developments in the STIG (Steam Regenerative Gas Turbine). By contacting the multistage “saturator”, the combustion air of the combustion engine is saturated. Water vapor added to the combustion air, which contains about 20-40% water vapor, reduces compressor compressor work expenditure from 50% to about 30%. The saved 20% of the shaft output is added to the generator. Compared to a simple cycle, the intercooling of the HAT cycle reduces the work of compression, while the water vapor increases the power of the gas turbine, with the result that higher specific losses
