The negative impact of natural disasters on human society is partly reflected in the tremendous damage they have done to the rural social economy, which is even more pronounced in this society. In the mid-10-11 century, natural disasters in the Eastern Mediterranean under the rule of the Byzantine Empire were frequent. According to historical records, the disaster not only caused great losses to the agricultural production of the Empire, but also accelerated the transfer of land in imperial rural areas and impelled the development of large-scale real estate in the Empire grow. In addition, a serious disaster destroyed the stability of rural society and weakened the importance of the grass-roots social organization, the village community, and the Central Government of the Empire gradually lost its effective control over the grass-roots society.
