Based on Maxwell’s equations of electromagnetic field and its boundary conditions, the strict coupled-wave diffraction equation of binary optics is deduced and the reflection characteristic of binary phase grating is analyzed. The grating’s reflectivity can be reduced to approximately zero when the geometry of the grating is properly chosen. This anti-reflection grating features better than traditional anti-reflection film
