In the 20’s of this century, Evans and Bishop found that in the early stages of normal pregnancy, rats must abort in late trimester when the food is cut off from vegetable oil. But when wheat germ oil is added, it can be completely prevented. They call this unknown wheat germ factor Vitamin E (VE). Fifty years later, it was found that severing VE still caused softening and severe edema in the young chicken, muscle atrophy in rabbits and guinea pigs, fading of brown fat in mink, pigs and other animals, accumulation of peroxide and increase of myogenin.
