广州市曾是丝虫病的流行区。从５０年代开始，丝虫病防治工作就采取了根治传染源为主导的策略，通过对不同抗丝虫病药物的治疗效果观察，筛选出海群生作为广州市治疗丝虫病的基本药物，在此基础上对海群生的各种治疗方法进行了研究，摸索出合理的治疗方法，经推广至流行区应用
