Many noise radars are used to measure the target impulse response. Previous Walton et al. Discussed the use of fixed delay line systems for inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging. This article discusses a radar that produces broadband noise and radiates it from a broadband antenna. Part of the transmitted signal is delayed and related to the received signal. The radar target impulse response is proportional to this correlation and the target’s delay response. This kind of correlation is followed by a low-pass filter followed by a microwave mixer. The variable delay line is a group of microwave switches and then gradually increase the coaxial cable approach. The result is a very low cost coherent ultra-wideband radar.
