没有表示名称的标牌,也没有特别的叫法,“接待厅”就这么约定俗成叫了下来。这就是人民大会堂接待厅,又名国家接待厅。虽然名字朴实无华,它却是名副其实的“中华第一厅”。1979年7月15日,人民大会堂正式对外开放,每天大约有三四千名游客进入大会堂参观。但是“中华第一厅”从未对外开放。按照面南背北左右对称的中轴线原则,南门应该是一座建筑最为重要的门,接待厅就位于人民大会堂的南面。作为党和国家领导人接待贵宾和国家主席接受外国新任驻华使节呈递国书的地方,人民大会堂接待厅的重要性不言而喻。
