CS豫麦21号(周麦9号)在1988～1993年黄淮流域三年区试和河南省两年生产试验中产量均居首位。地区、省、国家三级6年85点次试验,平均亩产416.2kg,比4个对照种平均增产11.67％。其中,1992年黄淮流域11处试验,平均亩产506.9kg。生产上最高亩产625.5kg。1992年和1993年先后通过河南省和全国农作物品种审定委员会审定命名。其选育特点是:选用4个遗传背景不同且优良性状互补的亲本复合杂交,加大选育群体及重复选择,人工接种病害及肥水反应鉴定,田间选型与室内考拉结合等,使该品种集矮秆、大穗、高产、多抗于一体,具有较好的高产稳产性,至 1995年累计推广面积已超过 2000万亩。适合黄淮流域进一步扩大种植。
