On April 14, China Telecom Co., Ltd. (HK) announced that China Telecom will acquire the shares of China Telecom Group from Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Hainan Province, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province, Shaanxi Province, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region telecommunications network. This is the second acquisition of parent company assets since China Telecom listed in November 2002. The acquisition will add about 42.9 million subscribers to China Telecom and expand its geographic reach to 20 provinces.
