一、自然概况老秃顶子自然保护区位于辽宁省东部山区,恒仁县境内。其西坡与新宾县大东沟林场相连,自然地理位置在东经124°51′、北纬41°18′,分属桓仁县八里甸林场、木盂子林场及新宾县大东沟林场管辖,包括社队集体所有林,总面积10万亩左右。老秃顶子是辽宁省最高山,主峰海拔1,367m。周围群山耸立,山势险要,早在抗日战争时期,杨靖宇将军曾在此打过游击。全区气温较低,年平均气温6.1℃,年降水量868—1,020mm,属季风气候,受海洋性气候影响温和湿润。
