溶度积的概念是在1989年和1890年由 W.能斯脱(Nernst)和 A.A.诺易斯(Noyes)首先提出的。由于溶度积在化学中的重要性,不少人对于一些难溶化合物的溶度积的测定做了很多的工作。但一般金属硫化物的溶度积数值极小,无法直接测定,因此在19世纪末及20世纪初,一些学者研究用电化学方法(电导法、电势法)及化学平衡法对金属硫化物的溶度积进行测定。但当时测定的数据存在着严重的混乱,例如,当时教科书引用最多的是 O.维格尔(Wei-gel)及 L.布如讷(Bruner)等所测的数据,但二人所测的溶解度相差颇大,竟有差到 10~(10)以上者。
