We give a short introduction to the linear stability and basic bifurcation phenomena of delayed mechanical oscillators including the time-periodc ones leading to the delayed Mathieu equation paradigm.The engineering examples range from human control of mechanical systems, like balancing or car driving, to dynamic contact problems like wheel shimmy.
