Even though carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has remarkable mechanical property, invisible or barely visible impact damage significantly degrades the strength of CFRP structures, restricting the design space of airplanes.In this context, several structural health monitoring (SHM) technologies to detect impact damage have been developed.If the detected damage can be repaired immediately after its occurrence, more reliable and lightweight structure might be realized.
