In this work a three-layer hybrid structure, consisting of a cold rolled steel sheet, a thin rubber layer and a unidirectional glass fiber reinforced epoxy layer, was studied. The structure has been designed to dissipate kinetic energy in impact loading. It was manufactured by vulcanizing a rubber layer between steel and fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) sheets to ensure sufficient adhesion and energy absorption properties for the laminate structure. The adhesion and fracture properties of the structure were studied by using end notch flexure (ENF) and single cantilever beam (SCB) test geometries.
