It is necessary to mobilize storage compounds to provide energy for seed germination.In starchy seeds, such as maize seeds, the energy for germination is mainly provided by carbohydrate.Our proteomic analyses showed that in maize seed, the expression of some proteins responsible for energy supply, such as 3-phosphoglycerate kinase, malate dehydrogenase and ATP synthase, were significantly down-regulated by accelerated aging.It was presumed that the energy supply system was closely related to seed viability.To further study the effect of accelerated aging on energy supply system at the level of the catalytic activity of the enzyme and gene expression, we detected the activity of key enzymes of glycolysis and phosphate pentose pathway by spectrophotography, such as hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and pyruvate kinase.Meanwhile, the expression of their related genes was determined by RT-PCR and the level of ATP was estimated by bioluminescence, so as to explore the effect of accelerating aging on the pathway and the efficiency of energy supply.In the present study, maize (Zea mays L.cv.
