Observations on the comparative effectivenessof Chinese H_3 and Liu Wei Di Huang Wan(LWDHW,六味地黄丸)for patients with menopause aftersurgery,natural menopause and female climactericsyndrome immediately before and after menopauseshow the identical remarkable rates of improvementand effectiveness of 5970 and 61% respectively.Thisdrug of six constituents which enhances Kidney’senergy is used in treating endocrine disorders in agedpatients.Persistent use for one year gives definiteresults.Changes of FSH,LH and E_2 levels beforeand after CH_3 are not statistically significant(P>0.05);while after LWDHW,FSH declines(P<0.05),E_2 increases(P<0.05)but there is no change in LH.Maturation values of exfoliative cytology of vaginalepithelium in the two groups do not show significantchanges.The mechanism of action of CH_3 is mediat-ed through the cellular increase of cAMP,whichenhances the action of estrogen traces present in thebody;LWDHW probably acts through the hypothala-mic-pituitaric-gonadal axis.
