在精子发生后期,精子细胞核内与DNA结合的体细胞类型组蛋白逐步地被鱼精蛋白替代,使精子细胞核变长,高度浓缩,最终分化成为成熟的精子,鱼精蛋白是成熟精子细胞核内与DNA结合的主要蛋白质.从鱼类精子分离纯化的鱼精蛋白对培养的人宫颈癌细胞HeLa有显著抑制作用.其IC_(50)为50μg/ml.经鱼精蛋白处理过的HeLa细胞生长速度明显减慢,在软琼脂中丧失形成集落的能力,~3H-TdR的参入率也明显降低,当浓度为40μg/ml时,参入率仅为对照的50%,当浓度达到120μg/ml时,参入率接近零。
