1997年7月1日我国将恢复对香港行使主权,这是举世瞩目的大事。恢复对香港行使主权,是贯彻“一国两制”方针的伟大成果,完成祖国统一大业,是中华民族的根本利益所在,是全中国人民包括台湾同胞、港澳同胞和海外侨胞的共同愿望。统一是中国历史发展的主流,中国共产党人始终把国家的统一作为自己奋斗的一个重要目标。
On July 1, 1997, our country will resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong. This is a major event attracting worldwide attention. To resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong is a great achievement in implementing the principle of “one country, two systems.” To accomplish the great cause of reunifying the motherland lies in the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation and is the common aspiration of the entire Chinese people, including compatriots in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and overseas Chinese. Reunification is the mainstream of China’s historical development. The Chinese Communists have always regarded the unification of the country as an important goal in their own struggle.
