看过电影《第三类接触》的人,一定记得电影里外星人飞船降落的地方,那就是魔鬼峰。说是魔鬼峰,其实是一座高400米的壮观巨石。它矗立在美国怀俄明州东北角的国家级风景区“魔鬼峰国家纪念区”内。(这个风景区也是罗斯福总统在1906年签署的美国第一个国家纪念区。) 据科学家考证,魔鬼峰曾经是火山爆发的核心,经过数百万年的各种腐蚀之后,逐渐成为寸草不生的裸岩。近乎垂直的岩缘, 让人仰之弥高,望之生畏,却出乎意料地成为攀岩者的天堂。关于魔鬼峰还有一个传说,很久以前, 有个印第安少女,因遭受群熊的攻击而跑到魔鬼峰。当时的魔鬼峰还是一片平坦荒芜之地。正当少女被群熊团团包围之际,忽然从地平面隆起了一个巨大的石柱,将少女托上天际躲过熊掌。而魔鬼峰上奇特的纹路,据说便是熊爪的痕迹。
People who have seen the movie “The Third Type of Contact,” must remember where the alien spacecraft landed in the movie, and that is the Devil’s Peak. That is the devil peak, in fact, is a spectacular boulder 400 meters high. It stands in the National Scenic Area “Devil Peak National Memorial” in the northeast corner of Wyoming. (This scenic area was also the first U.S. state memorial to be signed by President Roosevelt in 1906.) According to scientists’ research, the Devil’s Peak was once the heart of a volcanic eruption, and after millions of years of corrosion, it gradually became an uncrowded nude rock. Near vertical edge of the rock, make people Yang Mi, daunting, but unexpectedly become a climber’s paradise. There is also a legend on the devil peak, a long time ago, there is an Indian girl, due to be attacked by the group of bears and went to the devil peak. Devil Peak was still a flat barren land. Just as the girl was surrounded by groups of bears surrounded by the occasion, suddenly from the ground uplift a huge stone pillar, the girl entrusted to the sky escaped bear’s paw. The strange lines on the devil peak, is said to be the traces of bear’s claws.
