By the end of May 2016, there were 988,000 medical and health institutions nationwide, including 28,000 hospitals, 926,000 grassroots medical and health institutions, 31,000 specialized public health institutions and 30,000 other institutions. Compared with the end of May 2015, the number of national medical and health institutions increased by 1,678, of which 1685 in hospitals, 4,217 in primary medical and health institutions, and 4,102 in specialized public health institutions.
