两栖爬虫经历了两亿多年漫长的演化过程幸存至今已是非常不易,但在人类的种种行为下给它们带来巨大的厄运是难以预测的,例在某些地区,每天有成千上百吨爬虫类被捕杀,用于食用、药用、工艺与工业用,以至这些已有两亿多年悠久历史的动物达到濒临灭绝的境地。 随着国民经济水平的不断提高,人们的生活质量也在不断的改观。以前,人们只饲养一些小动物,例如,猫、狗、鸟等,而现在人们逐渐饲养一些两栖爬虫类动物,因为它生存的空间不需要太大,在饲养方面要比小猫、小狗省事的多,所以,现在爬虫类被受人们青睐。
