In the summer of 2011, 17-year-old Dutch teenager Bojan Slater was diving in Greece, but was shocked to find out that the plastic bags in front of him were more “pudding than fish.” He then learned that around 8 million tons of plastic garbage are entering the ocean each year, every single mineral water bottle you throw away, every single canister, and eventually the relics of the ocean may be found in them. Slatter began to ponder how to solve the problem. He came up with a solution: Due to the circulation of ocean currents, rubbish floating on the sea surface will come together. So, instead of wasting fuel to clean up the ships chasing garbage, it is better to let the rubbish run into the collection equipment.
