西沟村是左云县一个偏僻的山村,全村106户,383口人,1984年人均收入3058元。他们在致富的同时抓了教育,培育人才,1984年投资26万多元,新建了一所小学。学校占地面积3600平方米,建筑面积1080平方米,共有校舍30间,包括教室、宿舍、饭厅等,并安装了暖气、自来水。全校有学生120人,分6个教学班,一个幼托班,并吸收附近村庄的30名学生住校。学生全部实行免费,每个学生一年供给学杂费约15元,并制作了统一校服。
