1974年11月,一个重大科学发现的消息传遍了全世界,震撼着整个物理学界,尤其是高能物理学界。美国麻省理工学院的一个实验班底——纽约长岛市国立布洛克海文实验所的闭路电视向全世界播送:经过10年努力,这个实验所已经发现了新的粒子。这个新粒子被命名为“J 粒子”。这一发现者和实验班底的主持人,是美籍华人丁肇中博士。因为这一发现,瑞典诺贝尔奖金委员会于1976年10月18日,授予他当年“诺贝尔物理学奖”。丁肇中也由此成了继李政道、杨振宁之后,第三位获得诺贝尔奖金的华裔物理学家。
In November 1974, news of a major scientific discovery spread all over the world, shocking the entire physics community, especially the high-energy physics community. A team at MIT - CCTV at the National Block’s Haworth Laboratory in Long Island City, New York broadcast to the world: After 10 years of hard work, the lab has discovered new particles. This new particle is named “J particle”. The discoverer and the host of the experimental group are Chinese-American Dr. Ding Zhaozhong. Because of this discovery, the Swedish Nobel Prize Committee was awarded his “Nobel Prize in Physics” on October 18, 1976. Ding Zhaozhong also became the third Chinese physicist who won the Nobel Prize after Li Zhengdao and Yang Zhenning.
