Objective: To investigate the role of HSP70 in the development of streptozotocin-induced cataract. Methods: Sixty-six SD rats were randomly divided into two groups: normal control group and cataract group. The diabetic cataract was induced by streptozotocin (STZ). The changes of the lens were observed weekly. At the end of 2, 4 and 8 weeks after the start of the experiment, the eyeballs were harvested and the expression of heat shock protein-70 (HSP70 ) In lens epithelial cells (LECs). Results: In the control group, the lens remained transparent. The lens of the cataract group showed vacuolization at the end of 2 weeks and all opacity was observed at the end of the 8th week. No expression of HSP70 in the control group, in the cataract group was significantly, and with the development of cataract increased expression. Conclusion: HSP70 may play an important role in the occurrence and development of glyco-cataract by regulating the growth of lens epithelial cells.
