一、旧时代下美国南方精神的影响福克纳笔下的大多数作品都是以美国南方的一个小镇——奥克斯弗镇为小说的故事背景。小说中的女性生活在南方这个特有的社会背景中,她们的生存状况和社会大环境是分不开的。也就是说,提到南方女性,便不得不提到南方的经济体制、男权主义、美国内战、黑人奴隶、淑女观、骑士精神等。这些不仅是美国南方旧时代的标志,也正是有这些因素的存在,才导致了美国南方地区与其他地区有着极大的不同,影响美国南方地区的这些因素也影响了福克纳的小说创作。
