The systemic absorption of intrathecal corticosteroids has been proposed since the early 1950s. Trimethoprim (triamcinolone) is not measured by routine tests for corticosteroids. It is necessary to determine the uptake of prednisolone, which acts on plasma cortisol levels. Exogenous administration of glucocorticoids inhibits the release of corticotropin due to the negative feedback relationship that controls the plasma cortisol level in the anterior pituitary. Therefore, if the normal pituitary-adrenal axis is intact, the systemic absorption of exogenous corticosteroids will result in a decrease in plasma cortisol. Plasma cortisol levels in this study were measured by radiometric analysis
