I. Hong Kong to be the future is still the shipping center of the world. To maintain the status of the world’s first container port, new container terminals should be constructed as soon as possible. In 1996, the throughput of Hong Kong’s port containers reached 13.41 million TEUs (TEU) An increase of 81 million boxes in 1995, an increase of 6.9%, slightly higher than the economic growth rate over the same period, but significantly lower than the 14% increase in container throughput in 1995 and 20.1% in 1994. In previous years, the annual container throughput increased by over 1 million boxes. This is related to the slowdown in economic growth in the Mainland and Hong Kong in recent years, and the development of the international container transport in the ports in the Mainland, especially the Pearl River Delta.
