Introduction Sediment movement, or more specifically, the movement of sediment in open channels, is a hydromechanical phenomenon that has been extensively studied by scholars and engineers for a hundred years. The vast majority of these studies focus on sediment movement in the sink or in solving a particular sediment movement problem. However, there is often a need for a simple and practical method of calculating sediment movement throughout the river. More specifically, there is a need for a methodology to determine trends in the range of erosion and deposition along the riverine and to identify changes in the water-level and flowrate due to sediment movement.
