缪袭生于汉灵帝中平三年(186),卒于曹魏齐王芳正始六年(245),仕曹操、曹丕、曹睿和曹芳四朝,历官尚书、光禄勋、散骑常侍、侍中。缪袭早年跟随魏武帝曹操征战沙场,魏文帝曹丕时期缪袭参与到《皇览》的修撰之中,魏明帝曹睿时期缪袭又参与到魏明帝改正朔、易服色的运动中来,陪侍魏明帝左右,制礼作乐,建言献策,功绩卓著。缪袭的奏议、诗赋、言论有幸被部分保存了下来,对之进行辑录与考察,就成为我们了解缪袭其人其事以及曹魏历史的珍贵资料。
