古籍版本学是一门古老而年轻的科学;版本研究作为读书治学的入门之功,有着悠久的历史。近年来,国家支持和鼓励发展古籍整理事业,古籍版本学研究在继承前人优秀传统的基础上取得了可喜的成绩。专业术语趋于规范,研究方向向纵深发展,整体研究趋于多维、全方位。魏隐儒《古籍版本鉴定丛谈》,施廷镛《中国古籍版本概要》、严佐之《古籍版本学概论》、李致忠《古书版本学概论》、戴南海《版本学概论》、程千帆、徐有富《校雠广义·版本编》等专著相继问世;在这种百花争春的形势下,曹之先生的《中国古籍版本学》(1992.5,武汉大学版)脱颖而出,以其恢弘严密的学科体系,丰富翔实的史料,细致缜密的考证,耳目一新的视野,受到版本学界的瞩目。
