康有为不仅是近代戊戌变法运动的领袖,而且是近代有名的书法家,对近代书坛有着重要的影响。康有为自幼就和祖父临欧体、赵书,特别是《乐毅论》,及长,又学《醴泉铬》,几十年间,遍及“及魏六朝唐宋碑帖数百种”,以后摆脱“帖字”影响而自成一家,被人称之为“康体”。他的字具有“重、拙、大”的特点。所谓“重”即指的是浑原,凝炼,有金石之感;所谓“拙”指的是古朴、率真,有生涩之感;所谓“大”指的是险峻、舒朗,有高远之感。康有为晚年的书法犹受人称赞。有人曾著文说:“每当看他晚年的书法,尤其是册页和长卷,都有一种感觉,如同登上南京灵谷塔似的;眼前的十里深松,涛声浩荡,青山如壁,横插半空,随处都有着六朝遗迹,有一种虎踞龙盘之气。”活龙活现地描述了康有为书法的高运意境。
