《左传》记载着这样两个故事:一个是关于晋国大力士鉏麑的。春秋时期,晋灵公(姬夷皋)执政晋国时,贪图享乐,暴虐不仁。大臣赵盾屡次劝谏,晋灵公非常反感,于是派鉏麑去刺杀赵盾。鉏麑在黎明前潜入了赵盾家,发现房门已开,勤于国事的赵盾早已经盛服准备上朝,因时间还早,就一边闭目养神,一边念叨着规劝晋灵公的话。鉏麑被赵盾的勤勉、忠诚和正直感动,不忍杀害他,退出门外,叹曰:“不忘恭敬,民之主也。贼民之主,不忠;弃君之命,不信。有一于此,不如死
