泰西这地名,是抗日战争时期,对山东泰山以西的泰安、肥城、长清、东阿、平阴、东平、汶上、宁阳等8个县的总称。这个地区物产丰富、人口密集,又有大峰、平(阴)(东)阿、泰(安)肥(城)3个山区。山东省委根据党中央和毛泽东关于在敌人后方放手发动群众、建立抗日根据地的指示精神,于1937年底,派人在此地区组织游击队,创立了泰西抗日革命根据地。1940年初成
