Vitamin E (VE) is a bio-antioxidant, has important physiological and pharmacological effects, it is widely used in clinical. Recently, Boscoboinik and other found that VE can also inhibit cell proliferation, which may be achieved through the non-antioxidant pathways. They studied the inhibitory effect of VE on the proliferation of rat aortic smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), human osteosarcoma cells, fibroblasts and neuroblastoma cells, with the most significant inhibition of VSMC proliferation. Addition of platelet-derived factor (PDGF) and endothelin (ET) to culture medium resulted in a significant increase in the amount and number of [~ 3H] -thymidine incorporation into VSMC, which could be induced by α-tocopherol
