追踪小说人物的原型,对其探根寻底是一桩撩人的趣事。在掩饰一个真实人物时,小说家出于故事情节的需要不得不对人物做些调整。如果写作顺利,作家就退避三舍,在人物自行其事、发表个人见解、设计自己的生活时,他就会以一种越发惊诧的感觉站在一旁关注他们。如果一部小说流芳百世,那么对作品中人物真实性的探究也就无关紧要了。因为随着时间的推移,读者们只记住了书中人物的名字而忘记了(如果知道的话)触发作者激情的真实生活中的人物。欧内斯特·海明威的读者中有不少人可能知道凯瑟琳·巴克利的名字——《永别了,武器》中伤员弗雷德里克·亨利中尉在
Tracing the prototypes of fiction characters and finding out the roots of them are a sultry anecdote. When disguising a real character, the novelist has to make some adjustments to the characters because of the needs of the story. If the writing goes well, the writer shunned and focused on them in a more astonished feeling as the characters act on their own, make personal opinions and design their own lives. If a novel flow through the world, then the authenticity of the characters in the works of inquiry is irrelevant. Because as time goes by, readers simply forget the names of the characters in the book and forget (if they know) the real-life characters that triggered the author’s passion.
