Giant cell tumors of the bone are rare, and symptoms and natural course vary, due to their local invasiveness or significant functional sequelae due to treatment. The authors retrospectively analyzed the results of radiotherapy for 21 cases of localized giant cell tumor of bone from 1959 to 1991, and focused on evaluating the efficacy, side effects and indications of radiotherapy for megavoltage radiation therapy. There were 14 females and 7 males, with an average age of 32 (13-71). The primary site of cancer was 9 cases of limbs, 6 cases of pelvis, 4 cases of vertebrae, and 2 cases of skull. 18 cases had extraosseous invasion, and 14 cases extended to adjacent structures (including 3 cases of spinal cord compression, 1 case of horsetail compression, 3 cases of sacral plexus invasion, and 1 case of temporal lobe invasion). 2 cases of skull invasion except 1 case of humerus invaded the brain parenchyma, another case of maxillary sinus
