严复(1854～1921年)初名传初,曾改名宗光,字又陵,又字畿道,福建侯官(今闽侯)人。中国近代著名资本主义启蒙思想家、教育家和翻译家。严复早年受教于黄宗彝,打下了深厚的古文基础。他是福州船政学堂第一届毕业生。1877年留学英国格林尼次海军学院。归国后,历任北洋水师学堂总教习、总办,京师大学堂编译局总办、复旦公学校长、京师大学堂总监督。1912年5月
