利通区——宁夏平原一颗璀璨夺目的明珠,偎依黄河东岸,是国家内陆经济开放区,宁夏黄河经济样板区,吴忠市政治、经济、文化、信息中心。辖区总面积1387平方公里,辖8镇4乡,100个行政村、3个农场办、17个社区,总人口38.93万,其中,回族人口24.2万人,占总人口的61.4%,是宁夏回族聚居的主要地区之一。利通区是“国家农业产业化示范基地”“全国牛奶生产大县”“全国牛羊肉和清真食品的主要产地”“中国清真食品穆斯林用品产业基地”“中国清真美食之乡”“中国(西北)鲜果之乡”和“宜居宜业的国家园林城市”。2012年,实现地区生产总值102.2亿元,地方财政一般预算收入2.7亿元,全社会固定资产投资69亿元,社会消费品零售总额34.5亿元,城镇居民人均可支配收入18831元,农民人均纯收入8781元。
