Since 1978, China’s economy has experienced rapid growth for more than 20 years. Although people have different opinions on the average annual growth rates of these years, since the reform and opening up, China’s economic growth has obviously accelerated. The overall national strength has been continuously raised and the Chinese people’s living standards have been greatly improved. This is a fact universally acknowledged in the world. In recent years, due to the impact of the Asian economy and domestic changes, the Chinese economy has slowed down its growth rate. Under such circumstances, will the Chinese economy maintain its long-term rapid growth and become a long-term, fast growth from government departments, economists, enterprises to ordinary People and the international economic community a common topic of concern. What exactly has prompted China’s economy to maintain remarkable growth over the past 20 years or so? In the gradual formation of the socialist market economic system, these factors still exist? What happened to them? Can these factors support the continued rapid growth of China’s economy in the future? Or replaced by some new factors? Where is the potential for long-term rapid economic growth in China? What are the factors that endanger China’s rapid economic growth? Economists at home and abroad have expounded their views on these issues on different occasions and analyzed and predicted the future of China’s economy. Recently, under the background of the state’s stepping up preparation of the 10th Five-Year Plan, the State Council Development Research Center hosted the International Symposium on the Potential Economic Growth in China. Domestic experts and scholars, relevant ministries and commissions and economists from the World Bank, the United States and the United Kingdom have jointly discussed the possibility, necessity and face of China’s continued rapid economic growth in the next 10 to 20 years
