解放前,我在南京任国民党“国大代表”、粮食部田粮署简任秘书。我家住在南京鼓楼傅厚岗,离广州路美国驻华大使馆不远。司徒雷登的私人顾问傅泾波住在官邸二楼,和司徒雷登卧室相邻,以便就近照顾他的起居。每隔一二日,我必去傅处,又因此认识司徒雷登。傅中文底子较差,一切和国民党政府的来往公文函电,以及应酬回复信件,皆由秘书罗嘉敏(上海人)专司其事。罗毕业于上海圣约翰大学,50岁左右。因他染有鸦片嗜好,经常误事,人又浮夸好说,便让他专给来往公文写英文提要。因为司徒雷登和傅泾波不大懂国民党公文所用的古汉语,故所有的公文,都需有英文提要,使其一目了然。傅恐罗嘉敏外泄机要函件,经常找我为其司笔墨。 Before liberation, I was appointed “National Assembly” representative of the Kuomintang in Nanjing, Jane Grain Secretary of the Food Department.
