邓小平理论最引人注目的特征是创新精神。邓小平理论突破了传统的社会主义模式，突破了把社会主义与资本主义绝对对立起来的传统观点，创立了社会主义市场经济模式，为社会进步开辟了广阔的前景和道路。邓小平理论还创造性地继承发展了唯物史观，为我党确立了正确的思想路线和政治路线，开启了我国的民主法制建设。理论研究工作者应从邓小平理论的创新中得到启示，发扬创新精神，努力作出理论新贡献
The most striking feature of Deng Xiaoping Theory is its innovative spirit. Deng Xiaoping Theory broke through the traditional model of socialism, broke through the traditional view that absolute antagonism between socialism and capitalism, established the socialist market economy and opened up vast prospects and paths for social progress. Deng Xiaoping Theory also creatively inherited and developed the historical materialism, established the correct ideological line and political line for our party, and started the construction of China’s democratic legal system. Theoretical research workers should learn from the innovation of Deng Xiaoping Theory, carry forward the spirit of innovation and strive to make new theoretical contributions
