This paper writes about the impact of de-collectivisation in the rural reforms since 1978 on the women in rural China Through a series of rural reforms, rural women in China have variously benefitted from the general growth of their family income The de-collectivisation focussed on agarian issues and not the needs or interests of women This made women lost a few benefits such as contract land, less income compared to men Their domestic workload increased while their decision making power declined in household or community activities Many girls even lost their opportunities to study It argues that a gender- oriented policy is to be pursued when the concern of rural women’s development is to be considered
