The United States Army Research Laboratory (ARL) and North American magnesium alloy Elektron Corporation (MENA) jointly studied and evaluated the magnesium alloy temper AZ31B-H24 rolled plate. MENA is responsible for sheet metal manufacturing and mechanical properties analysis, while the United States ARL is responsible for the analysis of the ballistic performance. The U.S. Army aims to provide higher-performance protection with less mass. Magnesium alloy density of 1.77 g / cm3, about 35% lower than the aluminum alloy (2.68 g / cm3), 77% lower than steel, it is a potentially superior armor alloy material.
